Glenn A. Meadows age 73, passed away peacefully with his family beside him on July 7, 2022. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Phyllis Meadows

Survived by his loving wife, Shelley Meadows; daughter, Melissa Duncan; sons, Tim Meadows and Andrew Nason; grandsons, Jonah and Marshall Duncan (his pride and joy); his sister Dale (Bill) Enders and niece, nephew and cousins.

Glenn was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was a huge Predators hockey fan and enjoyed going to games with his grandsons.

A New York native, Glenn graduated from GA Tech and made his way to Nashville a few years later. He was one of Nashville’s most sought-after country music engineers and received 2 Grammys during his years at Masterfonics.

Glenn was an ardent supporter of the Audio Engineering Society Nashville Section. In 2011 his contributions to the AES and the industry were recognized with the Fellowship Award and then in 2019 with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

For many years, Glenn volunteered at the Life Recovery Program at the Nashville Rescue Mission, where he ran the sound at the Coffee House. He also volunteered with OneGenAway, a nonprofit that provides free food to the needy.

There will be a Memorial Gathering Saturday, August 20, from 2:30 – 3:30 with a Celebration of Life at 3:30 at The Pavilion at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100 Nashville TN, 37221.

Dr. Bil

Sharing these eloquent words from Frank Wells about our dear friend.

“Bil VornDick. An amazing engineer and producer, always willing to share his knowledge and to be a generous, nurturing mentor to the next generation. Bil was a friend to all without reservation. His recordings propelled many a musician’s career into the limelight, even if he got left behind when major labels swooped them up. If you aren’t familiar with his legacy of recordings, check out the (incomplete) 650+ listings at https://www.allmusic.com/…/bil-vorndick…/credits (the earliest engineering credit listed says 1957 — the year I was born – not sure how he pulled that off). If tracks like “Flight of the Cosmic Hippo” aren’t on your reference track list, you are missing the boat.

This photo of Bil VornDick that I pinched from Robbie Clyne was taken early on at the AudioMasters. I had the pleasure and honor of working with Bil, alongside Jim Kaiser and the late, great Tom Clark in helping revitalize the then dormant AES Nashville Section in the nineties. We swapped the officer positions around in those early years and now the Nashville Section of the Audio Engineering Society is one of the best in the world. Bil, Jim, Tom, Michael Koreiba and I worked together as the founding board members of the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund (NERF – https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=nashville%20engineer%20relief%20fund ) across 20+ years (with Eric Elwell replacing Tom on the board along the way) in parallel with 25 years on the AudioMasters Benefit Golf Tournament with the NERF Board, Linda Albright, Kerry Kopp, Randy Poole, John Jaszcz (Yosh) and many many others through the years. Bil was a tireless constant in all our work and the AudioMasters won’t be the same without the good doctor on the course (though Bil was giving the secret stash location of a certain mountain elixir to his course partner Robbie Clyne this past weekend, and Robbie is committed to keeping the tradition and Bil’s memory alive).

With three decades of interaction, the stories are endless. I’ll only share here a conversation I had with Bil that has nothing to do with any of the above. Figuring he wasn’t born Bil VornDick, I asked him once about the spelling of his name. He told me that when he was nine, he wanted his name to stand out as unique, so he fully embraced Bill instead of William but then dropped an l from Bill and added a cap midway through his last name. At age nine he was already staking claim to the quirky uniqueness of Bil VornDick.

Thanks for all the music, Bil. Even more, thanks for sharing your talent, energy, enthusiasm, optimism and compassion. And most of all, thanks for your friendship. We’re all better to have known you.”

The Nashville Engineer Relief Fund and AES Nashville Section Present “Shine On – The Making of And We All Shine On: A Tribute to John Lennon from Music City”

Nashville, TN, August 7, 2020 — The Nashville Engineer Relief Fund (NERF) and AES Nashville Section announce “Shine On – The Making of And We All Shine On: A Tribute to John Lennon from Music City” – a free online event rediscovering the music created for the 2012 NERF fundraiser album helmed by Steve Marcantonio, longtime AES Nashville Section member and audio engineer for John Lennon and countless others. Set to take place on Tuesday, August 11, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm CDT, the Zoom-based event will feature a live-streamed moderated discussion with three of the album’s producers: Marcantonio, Nicole Cochran and Sharon Corbitt, with special guests including long-time Lennon producer-engineer Jack Douglas and artist Bill Lloyd. In addition to delving into the album’s inspiration and production along with tributes to John Lennon’s songwriting, recording and personal legacy, the album will be made available to those who wish to make a donation to NERF as it continues its outreach through these extraordinary times. We invite you to join us as we celebrate the Nashville audio community and examine an exemplary piece of our cultural heritage. The event is sponsored by the Recording Academy Producers and Engineers Wing, in partnership with the AES Nashville Section, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund.

And We All Shine On was put together by Marcantonio as a heartfelt tribute to John Lennon, and released originally in 2012 as a benefit tribute with all proceeds going to NERF. The album includes 10 handpicked favorites from Lennon’s solo works, performed by some of Nashville’s finest musicians utilizing several of Nashville’s top studio facilities including Starstruck Studios, Ben’s Studio, Blackbird, Sony Tree Studios, Ocean Way Nashville, and more. All proceeds from Shine On will go to NERF, the beneficiary of the beloved AudioMasters Nashville Benefit Golf Tournament and other community events that provide financial support to the ultimate beneficiaries – Nashville audio engineers and their families in times of need. The event is made possible by support from the Producers and Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy – a perennial supporter of the AudioMasters, the Audio Engineering Society and the AES Nashville Section.

About the Album And We All Shine On: A Tribute to John Lennon from Music City

And We All Shine On: A Tribute to John Lennon from Music City was produced by Nashvillian Steve Marcantonio, one of Lennon’s engineers, who was working with him at the Record Plant in New York City an hour before he was shot in front of his home in 1980.

Marcantonio hand-picked the artists that appear on And We All Shine On based on their shared love for the slain music icon and his music. They include: Rodney Crowell who sings “Oh My Love”, Foster and Lloyd reunited to brilliantly cover “Crippled Inside,” Jeff Hanna and Matraca Berg sing “Whatever Gets You Through The Night” and songstress Gretchen Peters offers the song ”Love” to the collection of Lennon songs.

And We All Shine On is the only Lennon tribute recorded with Yoko Ono’s consent. John Lennon had a personal affection for audio engineers, so Ono was quick to give Marcantonio her blessing if a promise was made that 100% of the profits benefit the Nashville Engineer Relief Fund (NERF) – a benevolent fund that gives a hand-up to area engineers in times of crisis, which is also very close to Marcantonio’s heart. Like most professions worldwide, sound engineers have been dramatically impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Frank Wells, an AES Past President and Secretary of NERF (an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation founded by the Audio Engineering Society Nashville Section) shares, “Our annual fundraiser, the AudioMasters Benefit Golf Tournament, was canceled for 2020 as a result of Covid and this record is one of our greatest assets. We are so grateful to Steve and Yoko for allowing us to release it digitally as we first did in 2011 with the still available CD.” And We All Shine On will be exclusively distributed digitally by TuneCore, with details available soon.
